Is there a true location where questions and answers are correctly posted for Microsoft Office for Mac? I have been trying to determine if there is a way to get Word for Mac to automatically update the FILENAME \p field. It appears that, no matter where I search, all instructions related to this question are for Word for Windows. This is also true for many other questions that have been posted on answers.microsoft.com. Accurate help for Mac users would be greatly appreciated, even a matrix that indicated features in Word that are not available in the Mac version would be a help. A family of Microsoft word processing software products for creating web, email, and print documents. Locked Question. This question was migrated from the Microsoft Support Community. You can vote on whether it's helpful, but you can't add comments or replies or follow the question. I believe this applies to Word for Mac as well. Just make sure you post to the appropriate Mac Community in order to get support for the Mac version. Unfortunately, this is a public forum so anyone is welcome to respond. However, Windows users do occasionally wander in with the best of intentions. We can't do anything about that. It's also true that the majority of resources pertain to the Windows product because that represents the lion's share of the market so always include something to the effect of for Mac in your search criteria. That will reduce — but not eliminate — Windows specific hits. The FILENAME field is one of many which do not update automatically. Whether something can be written in VBA I don't know. 0 comments No comments This is the right place. That will eliminate most of the unhelpful Windows information. As Bob mentioned, the Filename field doesn't update automatically. But you can add a macro like this to your Normal.dotm file. This example hooks into the FileSave built-in Word command to update the field every time you save: Sub FileSave() Dim oField As Field For Each oField In ActiveDocument.Fields oField.Update Next oField End Sub 0 comments No comments In your searches, include the term "for Mac" in double quotes. The frustrating thing is that there are a considerable number instances where information returned from an internet search for specific Mac help, returns instructions to select items in the Microsoft products that don't exist in the Mac products, or they exist but don't function as "expected". I was just trying to get a better understanding of the actual capabilities of Microsoft for Mac products. Thanks for your response. Regards, -JP 0 comments No comments I completely understand.
